In particulare the N91 looks interesting. 3g phone with 4gig harddrive and 2mp kamera running Sybion OS in a 160g package.

Nokia N91 @ nokia.com: http://www.nokia.com/n91/

Plus the design looks kinda nice too. At least when you take the functionality into account :)

Even as i am concidering buying a new phone, there are some thing that keep me from buying this device:

As mentioned i've allready got a band new iPod 30gig. 4gig's would leave me back were i came from: swapping music every so often, and getting anoyed when i haven't brougt that exact tune i was in the mood for. All thoug 2mp i doubt the camera will come close to my ixus when it comes to image quality (not size, quality, like colors, white, noise etc. ).

All in all if i diden have any of the formentioned devices i think i would consider the N91. With out a doubt the best specs for a "reqular" phone ( "not a pdaphone") for a long time. Nokia's been lying kinda low, and then they come out with something like this. The old finish giant still got some life in it - go nokia :)

My 1. post: A general take on the future of pocket devices

For my very first post i think i'll shoot the brese on what i feel is the future of pocket technology. May not be groundbreaking groundbreaking news..

So. What does the average techgeek keep handy? Personaly i onjoy music from my 30gig iPod photo. In addition i cary the not so refined LG u8120 for calls and texts. The phone does have a camera, but when you only have vga resolution i feel you might as well not bother. So if i forsee a need for imaging i take along my Canon ixus 400.

These days im looking at purchasing some form of pda. Amongst other things i've started managing a webhosting server, and realy like the thought of beeing able to access terminal services anywere. Also my need for email has gone up. My current phone does handle email, very poorly.

4 devices: Camera, mp3 player, phone and pda. I'm closing in on halv a kilo. All thoug i like to wear baggy jeans with large pockets, this seems like a pretty poor solution. Also having to remember to charge all these things dosen't realy strike me like somthing i will remember to to.

The not so revolutionary part conclution will have to be: Why not join all these devices into one? Yeah why not.

There are plenty of things these devices could share. For instance they all have a screen and some sort of input device. All four (ok maybe not the mp3 player - yet) can be acuired in a bluetooth enabled version. They all have a battery and comes with a charger.

The wish list
What is my dreamdevice? Read on..

Processing: 400-600+ mhz processer
Memory: 128+ mb ram
Storage: 30+ gb harddrive
Screen: Vga resolution / device size / touch sensitive
Connectitity: Bluetooth longrange, wifi, 3g/gsm - ir? Personaly i don't realy care but i guess.
Camera: 4-5+ megapixel with 3xoptical zoom
Size: Small
Weight: Light

Now comes som points of conflict:

OS? Uhhh.. Well given the name of this blog i guess my preference is obviouse. Two main points: compatebility and ease of application development. My laptop and my homepc / mediacenter runs windows - time to marked form .net compact framework application is premium.

Other people might prefer the open source style Symbian wich is allready supported by a rich set of application.

Input? This is a tough one. The touch screen is a must have, but i feel a qwerty keyboard is needed too. Only trouble is a qwerty keyboard is large. I've had a go at the htc somenumber / qtek 9090 with sliding keyboard. It's an acceptebel solution, but only becous of the size of the device.

In the future of mobile devices i feel there will be a need for new input methods. Maybe a fullscreen tansparent overlay keyboard - maybe a completly different approch (brainwaves? :) ).

For now i guess i would settle for the mentioned functionality packet in the shell a qtek s100 ,with the addition of a sliding qwerty keyboard.

Somebody please build one! I'll buy it i promise :)

How it all started

After a long time of having my mind flooded with more or less silly thoughts on the above, i feel it may help to put som of them down in writing.

The two main points of interest here is mobilphones (/mobile in general) technology and microsoft technology's (.net, avalon, etc. in particulare these days).

At this point i feal obliged to point to the fact that this is NOT a microsoft "hate" blog. I am not absolute beliver, but i do find many of the products and technology's from the company very interesting.

Especialy the to formentioned technology's in conjunction. Microsoft's focus on distributed cross system applications, and the idea of having one of those very systems on you at all times. Excelent.

Finaly i guess a little personal info on the author is in place:

23 years old
Studying Computer Science in Copenhagen, Denmark
Have managed to keep a girlfriend for several years.
Problemsolving skill's are lightyears ahead of spelling skills.

I hope someone will have a read, and by all means feal free to comment (as long as you don't point out spelling mistakes).

Enjoy :)
